Elevate your corporate wardrobe with new season colours, textures and silhouettes, and give your transitional wardrobe a good polish.
Suiting: Make tailored items like jackets and suiting top of your list for Autumn. Look no further than classic craftsmanship – sleek and streamlined with a precise and tapered silhouette (oh-so-flattering). When buying off the peg, it’s important to always have a tailor alter your suit so it fits you perfectly. Make sure the sleeve length hits just below the wrist, and trousers touch the back of your shoe heel. Invest in a classic shade, like grey, navy, and tan, that won’t date and and are easy-peasy to coordinate.
Where to shop: We LOVE the new suiting in store now at Jack London and M.J Bale. Have alterations completed perfectly and pronto at LookSmart Alterations on level 2.
Work bag: Spread the word – sports bags and back packs are not briefcases! A beautiful work bag is elegant, classically styled, always leather, and should offset your corporate style to a T. Make sure it’s lined, includes enough internal pockets, and is the very best quality possible. Opt for a neutral tone or combination of black and tan. Oh and remember the golden menswear rule – all leather – from your bag and your belt to your shoes and your watch, should always match perfectly. So all tan, all brown, or all black.
Where to shop: Pick up your perfect bag at Calibre. Check out the Leon Messenger Bag, $379.
Mix-and-Match: The right shirt and tie combination can either elevate a suit or deflate it, so remember that the busier the shirt the plainer the tie, and vice versa. If you are wearing a plain colour shirt, a sumptuously textured tie is perfect for hiding creases and wear. Regardless, your shirt should be the perfect fit, with one finger fitting easily between the collar and your neck. Make sure your shirt skims your torso rather than strangles or swamps it. Do invest in a good selection of white, pastel colours and variety of stripe widths. Every man should own a pink shirt (because everyone looks dapper in pink), crisp white (it suits all complexions, works with any tie and is always appropriate), and an equally useful but more casual pale blue.
Where to shop: Look for beautiful silk ties and immaculate shirting in a variety of colours, prints and patterns at M.J Bale, including my favourite pink check and navy stripe, both $89.95. Team with a dapper topper like the Phrase jacket (pictured here) from Jack London, $379.
Shoes: This season, look for classic shapes with a modern sensibility that are well-made for longevity. A lovely tapered toe won’t date and gives feet a more elegant line. Glossy leather is always a good option, so is well-executed design features, like decorated stitching, perforating and serrated edges. A little Gucci-inspired snaffle is en pointe right now, and adds a dose of super-style to your workday look. Now go forth and shop.
Where to shop: Classic cool at Politix. Slide into the Leonardo shoe in a sumptuous shade of Whisky, $229.
